The correct answer is China. Explanation & Key Takeaways: • Astronaut Wang Yaping has become the first Chinese woman to walk in space. • She is a part of a six-month mission to the country’s space station. • Wang, along with astronauts Zhai Zhigang, and Ye Guangfu are part of the crew. • Tiangong, meaning “heavenly palace”, is a crucial part of China’s military-led drive to become a leading space power. Important Notes: • The spacewalk marks the first of the Shenzhou-13 mission, and the third of its kind during the country's space station building period. • Just two of 12 Chinese astronauts to have flown to space, so far, have been women. • Yaping is the second Chinese woman to be in space in 2013 on Shenzhou 10, after Liu Yang on Shenzhou 9 in 2012. Common Pitfalls: • On 16 June 2012, Liu became the first Chinese woman in space. • On 16 Oct 2021, Wang Yaping became the first Chinese woman astronaut to walk in space. • The question asks for the first Chinese woman to walk into space and not the first Chinese woman in space.
